We are getting ready for Easter holidays in Room 13. In Religion we read the Easter story which you can read for yourself if you click on the link below. In art we created colourful Easter bunnies to decorate the hallways. Happy Easter everyone!! We had great fun at our annual céilí for seachtain na Gaeilge! We all dressed up in green for the day and decorated our classroom windows with "Shamrock Men" for St. Patrick's Day. Michela even shared some of her wonderful Irish dancing with us. We also learned all about St. Patrick in religion and how he brought Christianity to Ireland. It's Pancake Day today! We learned about the reason why we celebrate Pancake Day which is otherwise known as Shrove Tuesday. Shrove Tuesday is also known as Mardi Gras in some countries which means "Fat Tuesday". It is called this as in the past people used to fast for forty days during the season of lent, like how Jesus did when we went to the desert. On Shrove Tuesday people would use up the foods in their house that they wouldn't be allowed to eat during Lent such as milk, eggs and flour. The ingredients used to make pancakes!! We discussed how to make pancakes and everyone brought in their favourite toppings to add to their pancakes in class!! We have completed a great project on China. We also learned about the customs associated with The Chinese New Year. We created Chinese New Year dragons and also lanterns. Click on the button below to learn more about China. Today we celebrated Grandparent's Day as part of Catholic Schools Week. We discussed the importance of grandparents in our lives. We imagined what life would be like if we were a grandparent and how we would treat our grandchildren. Teacher used a very funny app which altered our pictures to make us look like grandparents!! We then wrote about what we would be like if we were grandparents. Check out the pictures below! We completed a very interesting project on the Ancient Egyptians. Click on the link below to find out about the Egyptians. We learned all about the legend of King Tutankhamun. Check out our portraits of King Tut below! They look so realistic! We also sang the famous song written by the band called "The Bangles" in the eighties, "Walk like an Egyptian", it's very catchy!! We also made silhouettes of an Egyptian landscape. Look out for images of pyramids, camels and cats! It's a new year here in Room 13 and we have been busy discussing our hopes and dreams for this year in school. We all wrote our New Years Resolutions. Let's hope we can keep them!
We are very excited today because we got our Christmas holidays!! We wore our Christmas jumpers to get in the festive mood!! We swapped our Kris Kindle presents, watched Home Alone and had a Christmas music dance party. It was so much fun!!
We're like busy elves in Room 13! We made Christmas decorations using lollipop sticks and then decorated them using lots of glitter and paint. |
