Today we were very excited as it was our Halloween holidays!! Everyone dressed up in our costumes for the day, even some of the teachers!! We learned all about the traditional customs associated with the old pagan festival of Halloween. We then ended the day by watching the traditional spooky film, "Hocus Pocus".
This week, we were very lucky as the book fair arrived at school!! We bought loads of books which we're excited to read over midterm!! We made monster bookmarks at our Halloween party! Some people even made Pikachu bookmarks! Take a look at them below!!
In art class we discussed all the images associated with Halloween. We then drew Halloween images on black paper, which we cut out and stuck onto an orange background. This created spooky Halloween shadows for our artwork. Check them out below!
English is very spooky with our creative writing. We looked at images of haunted houses to inspire the setting for our stories. We wrote what would happen if we were trapped in a haunted house during Halloween! We wrote our final drafts for our story on a fold-able haunted house. They look great displayed in the school hallway!
In art this week we learned all about the famous Spanish painter called Pablo Picasso. He is most famous for helping to introduce the cubism style of art which is a style of paintings in which is a style of painting where objects of the painting are broken up and re-painted in an abstract form. You can learn all about Pablo Picasso by clicking on the link below.
We did our own Halloween version of Picasso's paintings by drawing and creating our Frankenstein Picasso heads!! They look great hung up in the school corridor!!
We're getting into the Halloween spirit in Room 13! Today in art class we created pumpkin silhouettes based on symmetry. We drew half of a pumpkin on orange paper, and then cut it out. We created unusual pumpkin characters which really decorated our classroom in preparation for Halloween. Check them out below!!
