We were very excited here in St. Cronan's when the Sam Maguire came to visit with some of the members of the winning All Ireland Dublin football team. There was a great welcome when Paul Flynn raised the cup in our P.E. hall. We decorated our classroom windows with paper weaving Dublin flags to welcome the team. We wore our Dublin jerseys for the day and brought in our flags and posters to show the team members how proud we are of them!!
We have been learning all about Nelson Mandela in History and about his fight for freedom. He was a remarkable person and it was very interesting to learn how Mandela overcame the apartheid system of law and even was imprisoned for a number of years!! In art we drew tonal sketches of Mandela's portrait. Teacher gave us half of his portrait and we continued the sketch. The results are fantastic!!
We have been learning all about Ancient Greece in history. We looked at Ancient Greek pots on the internet. The images drawn on the pots give us clues of what life was like during ancient Greek times. Drawings of weapons and animals give us an insight into life during that time.
We also learned that The Olympics were first held in Greece. The Ancient Olympics began in 776BC. We learned a lot about the sports which were held in the Ancient Olympics. Some were similar and some were very different to the sports nowadays! Did you know that women and girls were not even allowed to compete?! We created exciting projects on the Ancient Olympics in our groups. You can learn more about the games in the Ancient Olympics by clicking on the link below.
Welcome to fifth class!! We are very excited for all the work and projects that we are about to do this year. To welcome visitors to our class we wrote our names on stars and decorated them for our front classroom door. We also drew our own self portraits, we drew ourselves as cartoon characters! We also stuck our pictures in colourful flowers for our classroom windows. They look fantastic in our new classroom.
