For the best 6 weeks a group of ladies from the local ICA have been visiting our class and teaching us knitting! We had so much fun and we all know how to knit now! We even bring our knitting out to yard! We created beautiful teddies and some of us are going to give them as gifts to people for Christmas!
In History we have been learning all about The Renaissance. We learned about the famous artist Leonardo Da Vinci and his beautiful painting, the Mona Lisa. Did you know that Mona Lisa's eyes follow you from every direction that you look at the picture. We painted our own Mona Lisa Parodies. We changed the famous Mona Lisa painting to our own creation painting a picture that would make Mona smile.
We have been learning lots of great amhráiní as Gaeilge. We had great fun learning "Mamma Mia" as Gaeilge from TG Lurgan. Watch the Youtube video to practice yourself at home!! Take a look at our video, we could give Pierce Brosnan and Meryl Streep a run for their money!!
Scientists from MSD in Swords came to visit our class today and did a range of experiments. We had great fun and even dressed up as real scientists with lab coats and googles!! We did three experiments, one based on Biology, one on Physics and one on Chemistry.
Using a uv torch & gel that fluoresces (very CSI) we tested the importance of washing hands with soap & water & not just sprinkling hands with water. The bacteria on our hands showed up under the UV lights.
Using a cornstarch & water mix we tested how a substance can be both a liquid & a solid depending on if a force is applied.
Using a red cabbage indicator(purple) we tested how the color changes associated with PH using baking soda (a base –blue color change) & lemon juice (an acid –a red color change) & water (neutral –no color change) We learned that acidic drinks like 7UP can really damage your teeth!!
In history we have completed a very interesting project on World War One. We have learned about what life was like in the awful trenches during the War for those soldiers. If you click on the website below you can learn all about life in the trenches during the War.
Today is the 100th anniversary of World War 1 and is Remembrance day. We did Poppy Art to celebrate the day. The Poppy is a symbol of all the lives of soldiers which were lost in the WW1 battles. Bodies of dead soldiers lay on poppy fields during the War.
We have been learning all about The Great Famine in Ireland. We learned about the blight of potatoes and the mass emigration which took place in Ireland during that time. Learn more about the Famine by clicking on the link below.
We created our own Famine Coffin ships as part of our Famine project. Everyone did a great effort collecting a range of materials at home to create their coffin ship masterpieces. The end results were fantastic!!!
