In November and December our class, along with Ms. Finn's class set up our own mini company as part of the Fingal Enterprise Initiative. To begin with we conducted a survey of the children in the school to find out what item they would buy. Christmas Crackers were the unanimous winner!! Once we had decided on our product, we brainstormed a suitable name and 'Cronans Gone Crackers' was born! We then made a list of all the materials which we would need to make the product. We brainstormed where the best placed to buy our materials at the cheapest price would be. Once we had all we needed the hard work began! To start each class made 100 crackers. Once we had all the crackers made we designed some posters to advertise our product! We chose the 4th of December as the date we would sell the crackers. Our sale was a great success and we were shocked that after only 3 classes we had completely sold out of crackers!! As there were so many other children still interested in buying our crackers we decided to take their orders so we would know how many more crackers to make. In the end we had to make an extra 220 crackers!! We chose the 17th of December as the date for our final sale. In the end we made €150 profit. We decided to donate €50 to the charity St. Vincent de Paul and then used the other €100 to have a pizza party for the two classes. We really enjoyed making the crackers!!!
The final games of our tag rugby league took place today. They all played 7 games in total and the there was a huge improvement in skill level throughout the seven games. The shield winners were Connacht and the cup winners were Munster. Well done to all teams involved. Below is a selection of the work we are most proud of this year. As the second class kids are preparing to visit our school for the first time the children in Mr. Shier's class decided to make a trailers capturing some of the aspects of school life the children can look forward to. There are six different videos in all, the finished trailers were created after lots of careful recording and editing. The final trailers are really impressive. Over the next few weeks we will be doing stop motion animation in art. Stop motion animation is where you take lots of pictures of your characters and play them really fast. We are in groups each group has come up with an idea. My group has thought of Mario Bros! We are going to make Mario and a pipe and get him to jump over it. We will be doing it over the next six weeks. At the end we are having an awards ceremony. There are three prizes:
· Best Animation. · Best idea. · Best characters. Rachel We are learning about the French revolution. It all started because King Louis the 16th (the king of France) helped America’s Revolution which got the people of France thinking. They thought why do we have to pay taxes and the nobility do not? Marie Antoinette was unpopular in France. When the poor people of France came for bread she said: “Let them eat cake!” Marie Antoinette did not buy the cakes. The French public rebelled and cut of her head using the guillotine. This started revolutions elsewhere! Hopefully we will learn more during the week. Charlotte Over the last and next few weeks our class are doing tennis. Tennis is a game with a ball and a racket. I’m sure you’ve heard of it! We do it on Wednesday. We go in pairs and do exercises and then at the end we have a match. We are all really enjoying it.
Rachel We were learning about water birds. We were put into groups and did research on a bird. We made a poster with a diagram of the bird we had. After that we did research on our bird. We found information on two computers and an iPad. Afterwards we presented the poster we had a quiz there was five questions per bird. The group that had the Bewick Swan had a really good presentation. We learned about the cormorant, the mute swan, the dunlin, the bewick swan, the oyster catcher, the whooper swan and the herring gull. Charlotte |
