Our visit to the Japenese Ambassador's Residence
Last Friday a small group of children went to the Japanese ambassador's residence at his invitation.
The occasion was the celebration of the birthday of the Japanese Emperor. This is a very important date for Japanese people and it was celebrated in the residence of the Japanese ambassador, Mr Maryuama.
It is an important date in the Japanese calendar - just like our St Patrick's Day.
The children sang the Japanese national anthem followed by our national anthem.
The gathering was attended by a former taoiseach, a minister of state, the lord mayors of Dublin and Limerick and numerous ambassadors among others - about 140 dignitaries.
It was addressed by the ambassador and by Jack Chambers. The children ended the formalities by singing a song in Japanese accompanied by myself, Dr O'Toole and Mr Brown.
Needless to say the small choir sang like angels, were impeccably well behaved and dressed. The gathering was extremely impressed by the children and many complemented them and us on their singing.
It was such an honour for our school to be asked to sing at such a prestigious event.
